Faecal egg counts for horses are performed using a fluorescent dye digital analysis for the eggs of Ascarids and Strongyles which is more consistent than the human eye.

All FEC must be ordered and paid for before the test is undertaken and before the sample is mailed in. Once the test has been purchased on line the instructions and Faecal Egg Count Authority Form will be emailed to you

When the sample has been received tests will normally be undertaken within one business day and results emailed to you.

Faecal Egg Count - Equine

Faecal egg counts for horses are performed using a fluorescent dye that highlights cells that have had proteins bound to specific structural carbohydrates that form the cell walls of the ova of Ascarids and Strongyles. Once a sample has been processed a digital image of the sample is taken and analysed. The egg count is undertaken by digital computation of the dyed cells, which is more consistent than the human eye.

The digital image will then be emailed to you and recommendations made to you based on the actual worm count, the age of the horse and the management of the horses environment.

Accurate results begin with correct sample collection. The dung should be as fresh as possible but can still be posted or delivered to us the day after collection (we need to receive the dung within 5 Days from collection). Unless you are undertaking an efficacy test, ensure you wait for a minimum 4 weeks after worming before collecting a sample from your horse

Use a glove to pick up about five small pinches from different places across a fresh dung pile. Place the dung into a zip lock bag, press the air out before sealing the bag. Ensure the bag is sealed. Label the sample with the horse’s name and sample number (as per the form) if testing is being performed on more than one animal. Please write in ball point pen or permanent marker as water based inks may wash off. Complete the Faecal Egg Count Authority Form with your details, the horses details and giving us consent to test the dung.

If posting the sample, place the sample ziplock back into a second ziplock back, ensuring you remove the air. Put sample and paperwork and into the larger bag or box and Express Post the sample to:
